Dodai Manufacturing Plc (Dodai), is a recently incorporated organization launched in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on August 01, 2023. Dodai is a fast growing organization with a mission of making e-mobility accessible to everyone in Africa through its innovative products and services. Dodai plans to provide brand new electric two wheelers by assembling them here in Addis Ababa and plans to expand to major regional cities in Ethiopia by the end of 2026.
Purpose of the Position
The L3 Battery Hardware Engineer is responsible for the complete mechanical-electrical hardware integration of Dodai’s EVs battery packs, including enclosure design validation, module integration, harness design review, safety compliance, testing, and failure analysis.
The role provides technical leadership to L0, L1 and L2 technicians and ensures that all pack builds meet structural, thermal, electrical, and functional specifications.
Key Responsibilities
Testing & Analysis
- Conduct mechanical and environmental tests: vibration, shock, thermal cycling, IP tests, drop tests.
- Review electrical test results: IR, OCV delta analysis, balancing accuracy, capacity cycling.
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for failures using engineering tools such as Ishikawa, 5-Why, fault-tree analysis.
Process & Documentation
- Own engineering documentation: test reports, drawings, revision controls, ECNs.
- Define measurement methods and acceptance criteria for hardware quality.
Technical Leadership
- Supervise the work of and provide guidance to L1 mechanical technicians on build processes, torque control, sealing, fastener management.
- Supervise the work of and provide guidance to L2 electrical technicians on high-voltage routing, harness management, and testing routines.
- Train team members on safety, DFM, and testing techniques.
- Provide performance feedback and develop teams to ensure their growth as well as contribution to the company’s mission

Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or related field
- 3-5 Years of Experience in Mechanical Engineering, Battery system or related field.
Technical Skills
- Strong electrical fundamentals: HV architecture, contactors.
- Proficient in testing instruments (IR meter, multimeter, DAQ equipment).
- Knowledge of safety standards and certification test methods.
- Strong documentation and reporting capability.
